Operational June 2011
Financing of the project was completed in late October 2009 in very difficult market conditions and construction started immediately afterwards. From an engineering perspective the site presented a number of challenges being located on the site of several former opencast mines operated by British Coal between 1945 and the 1990s. The unconsolidated nature of the opencast back-fill required ground improvement ahead of the construction of turbine bases. specail
Construction was completed in 19 months which included December 2010 one of the coldest months on record for 25 years, when widespread snow and record low temperatures caused disruption UK wide.
The site started commercial operation at 1st June 2011 after a short period of commission testing.
